Library Take-Out

Thank you for your enthusiasm for our new program. As we have been getting a large volume of requests, please be patient as we try to fill your orders as quickly as possible.

Our new Library Take-Out service is a contactless curbside pick-up service. Patrons can place a hold on library items through our online catalogue, and once their items are ready, they will be contacted by library staff and can collect their items at the back of the library, following special physical distancing procedures. To ensure the service complies with health and safety recommendations, the library has built their plan based on guidelines from WorkSafeBC and local health authorities.

The Library’s return slot will remain open 24/7 and patrons who wish to return their items may do so. However, all items will continue to have a July 3 due date. Once materials are returned to the library, they will be isolated for at least 72 hours in order to follow health and safety recommendations.

FAQs

What can I borrow?
You can place a hold on any items from our collections that are holdable in our catalogue. This includes:
  • Books in all formats
  • DVDs and Blu-Rays
  • Audiobooks on CD
  • Music CDs
  • Video games
  • Board games and puzzles (excluding some larger games)
  • Magazines
Note: certain items are not available for loan including video game consoles, larger kits, and museum passes.
How do I place a hold?
You can place a hold on items in our catalogue by logging into your account, searching or browsing for items, and clicking “Place a Hold” on the desired item. Library staff will be in touch as soon as the hold is ready for you to pick up. Note: When you log into our catalogue for the first time, your default PIN will be the last 4-digits of your phone number. Send us an email, or check-out this tutorial if you’re having trouble.
What if I don’t know what I want to borrow?
No problem! Our library staff are happy and ready to select items for you based on your preferences. Whether you are looking for some picture books for the kids or some engaging mysteries for yourself, fill out this form and we’ll work with you to make some selections.
When can I come pick up my Take-Out order?
Once you are notified that your hold is ready, you can pick up Monday-Friday between 1:00-4:00pm.
What should I expect when I come to pick up my Take-Out order?
Once you are notified that your hold is ready, you will come to the back door of the library (Monday-Friday between 1:00-4:00pm). Signage will guide you to the place where you can show something with your name on it to staff through the window. Your order will then be placed on a table or cart outside the library door. When the door to the library is closed, it will be safe to approach and collect your bag.
How long can I borrow items through Take-Out?
All due dates for items checked out will be July 3. If you’d like to return library items before that, the return slot at the back of the library is open 24/7.
Can I send someone else to pick up my Take-Out order for me?
Yes! You can identify the person who will be picking up your order by phoning the library at 604-892-3110. Remember that you are responsible for all items that are checked out under your barcode.
Can I borrow interlibrary loans through Take-Out?
No. Materials lending between library systems in BC is currently suspended, so you can only borrow items available at Squamish Public Library.
Can I borrow items if I have overdue fines?
Yes! Library accounts with more than $10 of fines can borrow materials at this time, because our patrons don’t have the ability to settle their accounts. We will reserve the right to limit access to cardholders with significant outstanding bills on their accounts.
I don’t have a library card. Can I still borrow items?
No problem, we can sign you up for an account! Contact the library by email and include your:
  • Full Name
  • Date of Birth
  • Address (mailing and physical)
  • Phone Number
  • Email address
Is it safe to borrow library materials during COVID-19?
We are taking all precautions to ensure that materials are handled safely. Any returned items are not being handled for the recommended period of 72 hours. To pick up an order, you’ll need to arrange a time with staff. Under current restrictions and to keep this service safe, we will be limiting the number of appointments per half-hour pickup windows. If you see others picking up their order, please wait on one of the physical distancing markers until it is safe to proceed towards the door. Only one person is permitted in the pick-up area at a time.
If you are feeling unwell or if any member of your household is sick or in isolation, we ask that you refrain from picking up library materials. This will help us all feel more comfortable and confident with the safety of our collections. We’ll look forward to serving you again when everyone in your household is healthy.
