What Is It?

Reading Buddies is a new program at the Squamish Public Library where teens and children pair up for one-on-one reading in a safe, fun, and friendly environment.  The goals of this program are to provide children with extra reading practice and to provide teens with leadership skills and an opportunity to volunteer in the community.  Reading Buddies is not designed to teach children how to read.

When Is it?

Reading Buddies will take place each Wednesday from 3:30 – 4:30 pm.

Session one : Training October 3rd, reading October 10th to November 7th.

Session two: Training November 14th, reading November 21st to December 19th.

Where Is It?

Reading Buddies will take place in the Squamish Library meeting room.  A Library staff member will supervise the reading buddies.

How Do I Apply?

Children must be in grades 2, 3, or 4.  To register your child, please contact Kate at 604-892-3110, ext. 5301 or kinman@squamish.ca

Teen volunteers must be in grades 10, 11, or 12.  To become a volunteer, please download an application, and either hand it in at the library or email it to Kate.  If you are accepted, you will be expected to attend an hour-long training session as well as being available for all 6 weeks of the program.
